Consent, step by step

How SMS opt-in works

This page describes exactly how a tenant comes to receive text messages from RentChime, and how they stop them. It exists so that tenants, landlords, and carrier reviewers can all see the same rules.

The opt-in flow (double opt-in via text)

  1. A landlord enters a tenant's phone number in their RentChime account, along with the rent amount and due day.
  2. RentChime sends one invitation message to that number: "Hi [name], your landlord [landlord] uses RentChime to send rent reminders and receipts by text. Reply YES to receive them, or ignore this message and nothing will be sent. Reply STOP anytime. Reply HELP for help."
  3. Nothing further is sent unless the tenant replies YES. No reply means no messages — the invitation is not repeated. Replying YES is the tenant's express consent to receive rent-related messages (reminders, late notices set by their landlord, and payment receipts) from RentChime.

What consent covers

Rent-due reminders, late-rent notices, and payment receipts for the tenancy in question — informational messages only. RentChime does not send marketing or promotional messages to tenants, and consent is never a condition of any lease or purchase.

Opting out

Reply STOP to any message to end all messages immediately (one final confirmation is sent, then nothing further). Reply START to re-subscribe. Reply HELP for assistance at any time, or email growth@rentchime.com.

The fine print

Message frequency varies with the reminder schedule the landlord sets — typically a few messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Full program terms: SMS Terms. Data handling: Privacy Policy. Mobile opt-in data is never shared with third parties for marketing.
